Hello, My Friends!~~~
We will head off to Walt Disney World in a few days! The first time I was there was in March of 1975 when I was 14. The only things there were the Magic Kingdom, the Polynesian Hotel, and the Contemporary Hotel (at the time, I believe they were called hotels; today they are known as resorts). We stayed at the Contemporary Hotel which was way cool since the monorail went right through it and my brothers and I would ride it around and around.
In the Magic Kingdom in Adventureland near the Enchanted Tiki Room, is the Sunshine Tree Terrace. Disney had an agreement with the Florida orange growers to advertise their products which was nice of Disney since they plowed down hundreds of acres of orange groves to build Walt Disney World!
We stopped at the Sunshine Tree Terrace and bought these cute plastic oranges with a green straw and top and Mickey Mouse on it too! My mom still has these in her house. At the Sunshine Tree Terrace you met Disney's character for the Florida citrus growers, the Orange Bird!
This is not my family. I borrowed this photo from 2791 Hyperion. I can tell you I dressed this stylishly in the mid-70's. There are photos but back then my Dad took slides. And, hey! I think that girl has my red, white, and blue hat! But isn't the Orange Bird cute?
Orange Bird is BACK at Walt Disney World this year to celebrate WDW's 40th anniversary! I hope to snag something with the Orange Bird in my souvenir hunting (one of my favorite things to do on vacation is souvenir hunt!).
So, I'll leave you with these cherry (oops!) Orangey images! I will have VERY limited internet access at WDW, so probably won't be blogging. That will happen when I return! If you have been to WDW recently and have advice for me, please comment! Some of you have given me wonderful advice already and I will use it for sure!
See you later!~~~XXOO, Beth
