Hello, My Friends!~~
The other evening I was channel surfing and landed on the beginning of Alfred Hitchcock's 1963 masterpiece The Birds. I love this movie. The style of it. The dialog. So early sixties. Tippi Hedren is so fashionable, not a hair out of place, and then WHACK! A seagull swoops down and pecks her on the head. I know some folks who are are afraid of birds, and it's probably because they saw this film. Of course every time I see it, I think that the people of the town of Bodega Bay wouldn't be so terrorized if they wore motorcycle helmets with the visors down to keep the birds from attacking thier heads and eyes. But then that wouldn't be a good film visually.
I do have a Tippi Hedren Barbie doll from The Birds:
Look at the curl of hair out of place when the crow attacked her.
I bought this several years ago, and I have it displayed in my studio. I do love Hitchcock films and I saw that Vertigo was voted the best film of all time. It's not my favorite Hitchcock film. North By Northwest is, followed by Rear Window, followed by The Birds, followed by Psycho.
Today, inspired by my recent viewing of "The Birds", I made this wreath:
I pretty much depleted my stash of vintage birds for this wreath, but I felt that a large flock was appropriate to the spirit of Hitchcock's wonderful feathered film. I gave them vintage mercury glass "berries" to keep them sated. Of course these birds won't swoop down and peck you in the head. At least I don't think so.~~~XXOO, Beth
