Hanging Around The Attic

Hello, My Friends!~~

This past weekend we visited my parents who have lived in the same house, designed by my architect father, for 52 years. It was time for me to hopise myself up through the hole in the ceiling and to access the tiny attic and unburden my parents with stuff they don't want. Most of what I brought home was books, many from my childhood, and some from their college, pre-children days.

Some of the boxes had not come down from the attic since they moved in as prived by the vintage North American Van Lines "wife approved move" box that carried some of their goods from when they lived in Miami.

I also brought home all of my baby and toddler clothes and some of my mom's lovely vintage 1950's dresses.

I am participating in The Vintage Home Market in May 3-4, and need vintage goods for my double booth as well as handmade goodies. The treasures found in my parents attic will certainly help!

How cute are the images on this box? This box contained an Irmi step stool which I have in our bathroom. I had no idea my mom used the box to store baby clothes.

I have recently listed a slew of vintage books in Dime Store Chic all from my childhood. I am willing to part with them and send them to good homes. There is still a lot of goods to sift through. So much! But it is fun and I like seeing things I haven't seen in many years.

Estate Sale Adventures: Parking Woes

Hello, My Friends!~~~

This weekened I visited the same estate sale twice! The house was jammed packed with great vintage stuff and one trip just wouldn't do. The sale was great but the parking was not too great. The road was in a neighborhood but it was one of those "main" pass through roads connecting two major roads. The sale advertisement asked folks to park on side of the street only. Do you think anyone did that? Heck no! As I approached the house and saw the cluster f**k of cars jamming the road up ahead, I decided that parking way out on the periphery of this impromptu parking lot would be a good choice. The road did not have curbs or grass to pull over on. Quite the opposite. It had, no lie, 12 inch tall alphalt drop offs and deep ditches on either side. The only way to park was to park in the road. I did manage to get my Subaru Forrester as far off the road as I dare before tumbling off into the abyss. I was a good two blocks away but I never scoff at a chance for a little extra excercise.

OK, after dealing with parking, I walked right on in and quickly scooped up fun fun fun vintage goods! Here is a sampling and, of course, I am offering these vintage treasures to you in Dime Store Chic!

Vintage Valentine Just Under the Wire!

I found the CUTEST vintage Valentine planters recently and had to turn them into fun, whimsical decorations for you! Just listed in Dime Store Chic!

This vintage Napcoware planter from the late 50's is SO cute! I love the pixie with paintbrush and mushrooms adorned with hearts!

Last year I found one of these 1959 silhouette planters and was thrilled to bits to find another!

Birdbrain!

Hello, My Friends!~~

Sunday was one of those rare balmy winter days and we went out and about the local parks and our own neighborhood looking for birds. I think I told you that Hubby and me have taken up the sport of birding and do so whenever we can. Yesterday morning we went to a large park in Alexandira, VA and found several lovely birds.

A male Red-Wing Blackbird called to others of his kind acorss the cattails and frozen pond.

Nothern Pintails huddled on top of the ice.

A puffy American Goldfinch checked out his surroundings.

A Rusty Blackbird, a winter visitor, hung out in the reeds. His spring/summer home is Canada.

We were thrilled to spot three Red-Headed Woodpeckers. I caught a juvenile RHWP on the side of a tree. We saw two juveniles and one adult. The adult was more elusive and cautious, and stayed farther back in the forest.

Nearer home, we walked through the woods that is bordered by large office buildings and a hotel. We were looking fof Pileated Woodpeckers we knew lived there, but were delighted to find high atop a dead tree a juvenile Red Headed Woodpecker over his home.

His head is still dark brown but hopefully should brighten to red by spring/summer. We look forward to observing him now that we know where he lives.

At home, as dusk was increasing, we walked around the corner to a wooded area bordering the neighborhood. Hubby can do a very decent Barred Owl call with his hands. The owl that lives in the woods soon showed himself, and despite the low light conditions, I got a few photos of him.

He mainly eats crayfish in the creek or hapless squirrels that can't escape his talons. I love seeing this owl and was thrilled to get some pictures of him!
