Hello, My Friends!~~
I have always love pink flamingos that you see on lawns from time to time. I learned that these icons of American suburbia where designed and patented by Don Featherstone in 1958. He was an artist who designed plastic yard ornaments for Union Plastics. He designed many different goodies sold in dime stores and variety stores. Union Plastics asked him to sculpt a flamingo and the color pink was popular in the 1950's. His inspiration came from photos in National Geographic magazine of the wild bird known as the American Flamingo, which is the brightest pink of all the different worldwide flamingo species. To this day all Featherstone designed flamingo's bear his signature.
I recently acquired a cache of Featherstone pink flamingos and have turned some of them into one-of-a-kind Christmas wreaths.

Flamingo wreaths and wonderful retro deer on wheels are available in Dime Store Chic!

Thanks for stopping by and Happy Summer!~~XXOO, Beth
